Putting First Children 1st

Summary: Through the National Congress of American Indians (NCAI), the National Indian Health Board (NIHB), the National Indian Education Association (NIEA), the National Indian Child Welfare Association (NICWA), and the National Council of Urban Indian Health (NCUIH) a joint collaborative policy agenda and tool was created to assist tribal leaders and communities with improving the social, emotional, mental, physical, and economic health of children and youth. The policy agenda identified four in-depth themes that serve as guiding principles that have both tribal strategies and policy objectives: 1) Healthy Lifestyles, Supportive Environments, Successful Students, and Vibrant Communities.

Application: Child welfare and Tribal leadership can utilize this toolkit in decision-making to ensure the healthy development of children and youth.
