What Is Child Welfare? A Guide for Health-Care Professionals  


This tool was produced by the Children’s Bureau to give an overview on how child welfare and health care can interface. It reviews what child welfare is, how health care practitioners can help child welfare workers, and how child welfare workers can help those who provide health care. A robust list of resources is included.  


Adoption competent care mandates sound and thorough teamwork. This tool targets literal strategies to be used by child welfare workers and health care professionals. This is a practical list that can and should be shared liberally between these two systems as health care professionals have a unique vantage point and impact in the lives of children and families.
