Addressing Historical Trauma and Preparing the Child Welfare Workforce

Summary: This video addresses the need to prepare the child welfare workforce with information about historical trauma in the Native American community. Historical trauma is the cumulative emotional and psychological effects experienced by individuals and communities due to colonization, slavery, and other forms of systemic oppression. It discusses the impact of historical trauma on the well-being and development of children and families involved in the child welfare system.  

 

Application: Interview with a community elder who used a traditional storytelling approach to inform the workforce about working with Cherokee families.
