Building an Adoption Competent Workforce

Summary: This article summarizes evidence demonstrating the need for adoption competent mental health services and describes the development of the National Adoption Competency Mental Health Training Initiative that produced two state-of-the-art, web-based trainings designed to build the capacity of child welfare and mental health professionals in all states to better understand and address the mental health needs of foster, adoptive, and guardianship children and families.
