Indiana Children with High Acuity Needs Project

Governor Holcomb announced a multi-agency effort in 2024 to understand the needs of high acuity children and how to design programs to provide the best support in their communities whenever possible.

Children with high-acuity needs often require specialized care due to the complexity of their diagnoses and life circumstances. This initiative focuses on providing the necessary support to promote their overall well-being. These challenges frequently extend beyond the child’s individual needs and are influenced by the broader family context. By addressing these factors and improving coordination between programs and agencies, we can offer more effective support to both children and their families.

A cross-agency rapid response team, established to address emergency situations, has already assisted over 20 children and their families by securing appropriate placements and connecting them with essential services. These efforts have helped stabilize crises and provide critical support.
