The National Foster Care Youth and Alumni Policy Council recognize the importance of access to mental health services and makes recommendations as to how to improve the services offered.

- Youth must be educated and informed
- Curb over-reliance on medication
- Make sure youth have access to and can retain community, family, and cultural connections.
